Dreams project (reflection,evaluation and diary)

In this page, this is where I put my evaluations for each day and reflect with problems and solutions so avoid what I did.

I just finished drawing my galaxy effects in dream sequence in Maya.

I decided to give a rest with my dream sequence and try something relevant, just to add a little fun. So basically, I watched this tutorial video on YouTube about how to create a moving image with galaxy effects. To be honest, I did face some difficulties. First when I imported my image, I notice that the colour of the photo was too dark see. So I watched this other tutorial about how to contrast the photo in Adobe Photoshop CC 2014. After spending twenty minutes in Photoshop, putting lightening in photo this was a success. To ensure I don’t make the same mistake, I should watch the tutorials again because I did missed some steps in the video. Secondly, when its was rendering, I couldn’t see the file because I was using Maya 2015 instead of using Maya 2013 because I’m used to it. Also, I could bring Maya 2015 file into Maya 2013 because it’ll crash and I would possibly lose my work. Whiling that being done, I remember don’t bring new programmes into old programmes (Maya 2015 into Maya 2013). With the final work upon me, there was a problem. I couldn’t see it when it was being been rendered. Looking back to my second problem, I could see that in front of me but not in the render screen. So I cancelled the dream sequence but at least I came this far of completing the dream sequence. I called the dream ‘The Eye of Dreams’.

I received my feedbacks from my teacher about my ideas for the dreams project. He said:

  • The style
  • The look
  • Mood-board
  • Camera
  • Colours
  • The field/feelings
  • The time?

I reposed to his feedbacks and reply on WordPress with bullet points to understand what to do.

The style: For my dream, it’s going to be unrealistic that no human has ever and breaking the laws of physic. For this dream project, I have powers to create what I want e.g. God.

The look: It’s going to be a forest in an unknown universe. See example below:

Mood board: For mood-board, I need to be creative with Maya by taking screenshots putting it in WordPress to build the idea of what I’m creating.

Time: I have to build my skill of being time consistent if I want to pass this project. That means I have to cut back my free time and watch tutorials and practice with Maya.

Colours: Bright realism colours

The field/feelings: The field of the dream sequence is going to be wide space given to the dream environment I’m going to create. For the feelings, I want create a ‘Depersonalisation’ mood to my dream. Depersonalisation means that the dream is strange but harmless. So long term short, it’s confusing but painless. With the galaxy environment in Maya created, I decided to planets because I want to create this dream space environment in Maya. I realised that I don’t want to bring planet texture e.g. Moon, Mars and much more. Then I thought what if I bring picture from Google of universes, galaxies and nebulas. This idea is more realistic and brings my dream sequence to be more creative and more efficient.

The imaginations have taken over my mind. With the galaxy expand across the Maya environment and creepy nebula texture; this creation will be a success. For the galaxy effects, I found it easy and creative to use because can experiments with the settings. The only two that I think was best to improved was to increased the global scale and rotate clockwise so if the stars looks 3D instead of being 2D flat. For the planet texture, I added one image from Google that was will give this eerie feeling to it. I chose the wallpaper the Wonderbeast from Alice and Wonderland because it’s scary to look at it and be scarier if there’s been a planet of Wonderbeasts.

I just out that all my work crashed. I think the reason was that file that had my images from internet just dispeared. Luckily I found my work but the images are black so I either cointine with my work or find the images again.  I decided to process with my work and use Adobe Photoshop for the effects.

So I decided not use the glow effect but instead use of a 3D effects I found in the Internet.

reflection and evaluation

So after three months, five weeks and one day, I’ve now completed my dream sequence. After I’ve finished dream sequence, I realised how much time it took me to do, how many hours I lost. Was it worth it? I think key skill that I need to improve is my time management. If I work out much time I should spent in one task, this will be much easier for me and be more efficient with my time.
