Cindy Sherman
Cindy Sherman was born in New Jersey, USA in 1954. During her time at college, she started taking an interest in visual arts. She is a key figure of the “Pictures Generation,” a loose circle of American artists who came to artistic maturity and critical recognition during the early 1980s, a period notable for the rapid and widespread proliferation of mass media imagery.
Sherman interpreted a series of conventional female cinema roles e.g. divas or young housewives. She draws attention to Hollywood’s cinema has contributed to stereotypes about women. I generally think that Sherman was a brave role model especially for women I mean, standing up for women’s right must been very difficult during those time.
